My plan to create directories at scale
If you’re a solopreneur, a side hustler, or someone interested in niche directories, here’s my plan for 2025 on how I will try to create 1 directory per month using datascrape.ai to curate the data.

I ❤️ directories. I don’t get why but I do. With the raise of AI, the need for well curated directories is more important than ever.
It’s way more simple to build a directory than a SaaS with higher chances of success- aka making money. When I say making money I don’t mean millions but 1K-5K a month as a side hustle.
To launch a lot of them not just one is the way to go because:
- Most of them will fail (like any over kind of business)
- SEO is a long term game
- You need traffic to start to monetize something
- They can compound on each other, driving mutual growth
I have one directory : ruby-on-rails-jobs higly niche, a job board dedicated to ruby developers. I launched this directory 2 years ago and made ~ 1K€ / month with.
it’s taking me bearly ~1h / week to run this job board. I could run 3/4 directories like that given. So here is the play I am going to try for 2025.
Building 1 directory every single month of the year.
Here is my plan 👇
- Find keywords with traffic min 10K/month without competition (existing directories). I use Google Trend + Glimpse chrome extension to identify opportunities.
- Find what I call ‘shitty’ names. Not very cool as a brand name but very good for SEO. for exemple ruby-on-rails-jobs.com match at 100% the search intent. If the domain is not available add [best] or your locale to the name.
- Use my ruby on rails directory template to create the website ~ 1 day / directory (seo optimized, with an api for content curation)
- Curate the data with datascrape.ai ~ 30 min / day with a zapier integration to rephrase the content
- Once the traffic starts to match my expectations find a pricing model.
Ideally all the directories will target the same audience (in my case Solopreneurs, founders). This allows me to cross-promote between them, creating a network effect.
By aggregating traffic across multiple directories, I can also make them more appealing for sponsored content. Instead of selling ad space for just 1K visitors, I could pitch 12 directories x 1K traffic each—a much stronger value proposition.
